Boston's only group for product professionals launches its expanded vision. On Jan. 17, the Boston Product Management Association (BPMA) hosted representatives from over 70 companies at a special Gala event at the Boston Museum of Science. The evening, entitled "Envisioning the Future of Product Management," featured keynote speaker Mike Volpe, CMO of HubSpot, and launched BPMA's 2013 expanded programming. presented by BPMA co-founder Michael Salerno. "The crowd that showed up was fantastic ... I mingled and spoke to a lot of fantastic folks," said Michael Salerno, co-founder of the BPMA, in response to the over 100 product marketers and product managers in attendance. Salerno, who laid out the BPMA's 2013 expanded programming at the event, added, "We went over a pretty extensive outline in terms of what are going to be the key deliverables of the BPMA moving forward." These deliverables included expanded monthly programming, the introduction of an executive breakfast series, the continuation of the BPMA's Executive Mentorship Council, and a new Practitioners Workshop Series. "The BPMA is doing a lot of the right stuff to invite in a lot of interesting folks that are going to talk about the future and really push people, I think a little out of their comfort zones, and really think about what is the future, and how do we get there faster?" said Mike Volpe, who is excited about the BPMA's role in the Greater Boston area. "The content and the networking that the BPMA does is important and we [at HubSpot] hope that keeps going." added Mike. Mike Volpe's keynote presentation spoke to the increasing control that consumers now have in marketing of products, and how he envisions the role of product managers and marketers will change in future to address and work with this changing landscape. The key takeaway, Michael Salerno feels, is "developing the love of customers. It's not just about the content, but it's also about the context, and [Mike Volpe] hit that right on the head, and that's one of the key messages that the [BPMA] has consistently been trying to deliver."
